Bassets are large, short, solid and long, with curved sabre tails held high over their long backs. An adult dog weighs between 20 and 35 kilograms (44 and 77 lb). This breed, relative to its size, is heavier-boned than any other.
This breed, like its ancestor the bloodhound, has a hanging skin structure, which causes the face to tend to have a sad look; this, for many people, adds to the breed's charm. The dewlap, seen as the loose, elastic skin around the neck, and the trailing ears which along with the Bloodhound are the longest of any breed, help trap the scent of what they are tracking.
The Basset Hound was bred to hunt, with a keen nose and short stature suited to small-game hunting on foot. A variety of Basset Hound developed purely for hunting by Colonel Morrison was admitted to the Masters of Basset Hounds Association in 1959 via an appendix to the Stud Book. This breed differs in being straighter and longer in the leg and having shorter ears.
So if you’re like me, who can resist that short & stout tough look, while being swoon by those droopy sad eyes, and those long velvety ears??
Aside from their obvious cute-factor, one of the other reasons we love Basset Hounds so much are their unique personalities, but yet so very similar to the bloodhounds! If you’re not sure if having a large bloodhound size dog, but love hounds I highly recommend the basset.
Basset Hounds are a very devoted and intelligent breed, as well as a STUBBORN breed, again like the bloodhound.
Because of their intelligence & persuasive behavior, people often joke that the dog is training them! Be forewarned, they’re not always joking; the dog is making mental notes of your behavior for next time.
And a Basset's sense of smell is amazing, second only to the Bloodhound! Seems they can smell dinner across the acres around here! For this reason, even a well-behaved Basset Hound can easily get distracted by tracking a scent & wander off, so keep track of your Hounds!
* $1300 usd- pet home- AKC LIMITED (no breeding)
* Breeding rights will be $2500 to approved breeding programs ONLY! Willing to work with new breeders as a mentor. I will require an in-depth conversation. Most of my bassets are high European/Brazilian lineage.
* $400 is the reservation fee to hold a spot once puppies are born to pick a puppy when they are 6 weeks old, pick goes in order of deposit received. I will let you know your place in line once a deposit is received, I usually have a general idea and will tell you where you're at in line. Once puppies are born and number of puppies are confirmed, opportunity for reservations opens back up to everyone else. Please make sure I have your address, email, and phone number.
I usually don’t hold spots for longer than 24 hours without a deposit. If you are mailing a money order, cashiers check, cash or personal check just send a picture of the check or cash and that will hold your spot for 72 hours.
The reservation fee DOES go towards the actual price of $1300 ($900 remaining after deposit).
Only time a deposit is refundable is if something happens and death occurs to the puppy which unfortunately does happen sometimes, or the vet finds something wrong and I don't feel comfortable sending puppy to a new home, but know and keep in mind deposits can be transferred to other litters for up to a year if you choose under those circumstances.
If you decide to wait and go with a different litter after your deposit has already been made on a current litter, you forfeit your current spot and get placed at the next available spot in line of next litter, no exceptions.
I will also work with anyone if payments are needed up until puppy is 10 weeks old. If we do an extra 2 weeks to make 12 weeks there will be a $200 fee added (covers my time/training, food, worming and extra vaccines)
We Facebook Live and weekly picture updates with sometimes completely random pictures added. Also FaceTime- messenger video are also available if Facebook live is missed- we will schedule a time. Or if you need a 1:1 when it’s your turn to choose a puppy we can schedule a time for that.
For those wanting to visit it will be no sooner than 6 weeks of age for the protection of puppies. I do require you to be clean and please DO NOT VISIT a vet- pet store- store etc prior to coming. You never know what you might accidentally pick up on your shoes/clothes. I don't want PARVO or anything alike on the property. Even I have separate shoes and a change of clothes prior to interacting with puppies.
1. I make sure they have vaccines started before they leave
2. Wormed starting at 2 weeks and every 2 weeks until they go home.
3. I get them a health exam from the vet with an affidavit and/or health certificate depending on location.
4. I register puppy with Akc for you(I pay those fees so you don’t have to). If you want to have the pups call name as part of the registration name I need to know that sooner than later. All Registered names will have “Kiser” incorporated somewhere in the name.
5. I microchip puppy with no annual fee to you. (It’s prepaid for your convenience)
6. Puppy comes with puppy pack which includes : scent blanket, toy, leash, collar, gallon bag of starter food to help transition if needed. I feed Diamond Puppy food in the purple
7. Puppy comes with a 48 hour health guarantee - which means puppy MUST see your vet within that time frame. If you're getting a puppy call your vet ASAP to get that appointment scheduled!!
8. There’s a congenital genetic health guarantee that covers the dog until they are 25 months old - contract goes more in depth.
9. Lifetime Breeder support.
10. I will travel up to 3 hours free of charge for delivery of puppy from my location in Inman, Nebraska (close to O’Neill, NE). If you’re still too far and don’t want to drive, I can put you in contact with some awesome transporters even flight nannies.
So you think you want a basset ? Are you ready for a puppy? He/she will grow rapidly for the next few weeks!
Bassets to me are so irresistible, and incredibly appealing, they are not a ‘puppy’ for very long. They are best raised in a house with a large fenced area – exercise is a good plan to have! A tired dog/puppy is a good one. He/she can sling drool much like the bloodhound across the room with one shake of their head and will do that often! Best to have a good plan for cleaning! Moreover, they have the tendency to lavish slobbery wet willy kisses on their owners – some people may not like that! They are a pretty clean dog, shedding normally twice a year (bathe as often as you feel necessary). The basset hound’s temperament is and should be friendly, affectionate, gentle, and devoted. They tend to be stubborn or somewhat “determined” and are inclined to pout, oh yes we could all write a book on this one, when corrected! Obedience training can be a real challenge! We ask that before you purchase your Basset Hound, really think about this information and be sure that you want to devote the next decade with one before you take that little guy/gal home! Also PLEASE-PLEASE make sure EVERYONE in your home is on board with adding a Basset to the family. They are not Christmas, birthday, anniversary, valentines; ETC. gifts!
